Increasing Team Spirit in Organizations during Pandemic

The upheaval and upsurge of life as we know it has been king pinned by the pandemic that has now become the most used word in our daily vocabulary. The only thing we have to face every day in our lives more than the word corona is probably the impact it had on all of our lives.

This pandemic has sadly brought about extreme uncertainty around the world and it is impacting everyone on a personal and professional front. These are difficult and unprecedented times, especially when stress, fear, grief, and pain are emotions spreading across the world, leaving everyone unclear of what the future holds.

The institutions that we operate in our trying to overcome the brand new challenges Corona, seems to have been thrown on our plate every day. The new working pattern that is being observed now has the key essential of ‘remote’ to it.

It has, over time, become the ‘new normal' in schools, universities and organizations across the globe.

Schools and its teachers are working round the clock to provide the same quality of education to their children virtually even as they themselves try to adapt to these new dynamics. Colleges are devising new, fair and effective methods of assessing their students while also taking online classes for other years. Companies are brainstorming different ways to maintain employee productivity while also trying to keep in mind their employees wellbeing.

All round the world leaders and trying to make the transition sustainable and effective while also trying to devise new strategies to overcome this hurdle as a whole.

Zoom, Microsoft teams and other video calling apps have come in handy in these times.

Schools have been conducting online classes to make sure that the learning does not stop. Apart from that online apps providing free courses like Coursera, Futurelearn, Skillshare, Udemy etc have also done their part in ensuring that a learning gap does not crop up.

Companies have been holding meetings online with employees working remotely. Organizations have also taken initiatives with their HR departments organizing seminars to cope with the changing times.

Various measures that can be taken to ease this transition have adaptability and resilience at their core:

  1. Companies need to keep the changing dynamic in mind while having any interactions with their employees.
  2. For companies working on their plan of action mental wellbeing must be kept at the forefront.
  3. A system for the executive level workers also needs to be established in order to understand and work on grievances.
  4. Hosting meetings for social purposes will also serve as much needed enjoyable on screen fun time
  5. Ensuring that employees feel appreciated is also a must. This can be done through thank you notes and digital cards.
  6. Finding ways of reducing screen time by giving out hands on tasks can employees take much needed breaks
  7. Employees need to be assured of their job and financial security.
  8. In schools considering reduction of syllabus is also a good idea since online classes will not be able to substitute for regular school hours.
  9. Students also need to employ other online resources which can to their theoretical knowledge during these times.
  10. The school administration should also keep in mind the students’ access to stable internet and draw out schedules accordingly.

All of these will work only if both sides of the boat are able to balance things out evenly and sustainably. Long term solutions and taking everyone in step is the only thing that can help us here.
