Friends with benefits: Hollywood mumbo jumbo or reality?

Movies today — whether Hollywood or Bollywood are advocating what seems to be a new ‘fad’of a relationship with no commitment, no emotions, no restrictions, no love.

Then what are these relationships about? The answer is SEX. What people find beneficial in such a friendship is no accountability or expectations, and they get to stay away from the emotional turmoil that true romantic relationships bring. This gives them the liberty to enjoy singlehood while having real sex, rather than just masturbation.

Although the younger generation is found to be more involved in such a relationship, few married middle-aged men and women also report involvement in a ‘no commitment, sexual relationship’ which last a while.

With a generation moving closer to easy-going lifestyle, sex has become a mere physical necessity rather than the act of making ‘love’. Most individuals find a way out by adopting a friend who can fulfil this necessity, sans the demand of love or commitment, and carries the same notion about sex. Despite this becoming a trend, researchers find no evidence of ‘friends with benefits’ relationships replacing romantic relationships.

Also, analysing this concept from the consequence it bids, it can be said that sex intrinsically carries the ability to evoke feelings and emotions, which is why most of these ‘friends’ end up falling either into love or moving away from each other completely. In both cases, the benefits never remain the same for long. While women in such relationship focus more on the friendship benefit, men focus greatly on the sex benefit. Therefore, it is likely that the woman gets bound emotionally. However, there are almost equal chances of the man beginning to feel attached to the woman.

If you find yourself in such a relationship, currently, it is important to know that even though you are having fun right now, there are high chances of things to get nasty. Often, such complications become a make or break thing between the couple. If you pass your termination agreement with flying colours, well enough! Else, you might end up falling in love, or might risk losing your friendship.
