Even if you are reading this in the morning and you have just woken up, there is a strong possibility that you are feeling not just lethargic but a bit sleepy too! What is the reason that even if most of us are doing nothing much but resting and yet we are feeling sleepy, tired, withdrawn, and probably have a loss of appetite and even libido? The reason is really simple. All of us are experiencing fear in a uniquely human way, as we humans are undisputed champions in being scared.
The feelings of fatigue that you are experiencing are more likely to be related to the mental workload associated with COVID-19 rather than the physical burden. Fatigue can have both physical and non-physical causes. After we have completed a 5 kilometre run we deserve a rest, or after an illness we can feel run down and tired for a few weeks.
Tiredness can be caused by psychological states, such as stress and anxiety. In the current situation, it could even be the monotony of the situation that causes us to feel tired. Therefore, dealing with the psychological strain associated with coronavirus could be wearing us out. So how do we go about getting our energy back?
A lockdown can be a difficult and complex time, as nobody is used to isolation. However, if we organize our time and set a certain schedule with activities, we can take full advantage of this time.
For the days working in lockdown, it is essential to find an exclusive and optimal workspace.Set up your workspace somewhere that lets you concentrate and feel comfortable.
Even if you’re getting extra hours of sleep your mind still might need more recovery from the stresses of this pandemic. Think about relaxation outside of sleep by introducing meditation during the day using apps or YouTube options. You can even try meditation in bed in a bid to combat insomnia. Let your brain and body know that it is time to work. Shower and get dressed as though you were going to leave the house. Pyjamas may be very comfortable but they don’t transmit the energy that you will need over this period to make progress effectively throughout the day It is important to get into the habit and mindset of studying and working, so it is essential to set a timetable, prioritizing your activities and organizing the tasks that you have to get done over the course of the day. Just like exercise, you can do without your downtime. Schedule rest breaks and make them part of your day-to-day routine, so that you can recharge your batteries and keep achieving your goals effectively. It sounds simple but making sure you have enough, high-quality sleep will help to reduce feelings of fatigue. It its essential to maintain a positive attitude, focusing on the here and now, and what motivates you to keep moving forward in your day-to-day life. This is sure to be a complex period, but these are the challenges that define us as people, so take heart and keep moving onwards! Just like corona epidemic, being aware of the threat is important without being scared of it. We need to become consciously aware that our fear is imaginary and remain focused on a healthy and active lifestyle even though our movements are restricted. For those who have sadly lost their jobs or been placed on furlough, it can be hard to find the motivation to get up – but doing so and having a structure to your day will help enormously. Even if it’s simple things – like scheduling a time for a daily walk, lunch or an activity – this familiarity will help your body get back into a consistent sleeping and waking routine. Ideas like collective prayers, mediation, breathing exercises or even traditional “cures” etc are not superstitious mumbo-jumbo. They are valid tools that we must use for managing fear at collective level.
